|RE:||AAUAP Executive Director|
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the AAUAP, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. George Jesien to the position of Executive Director of AAUAP. Dr. Jesien will replace Steve Eidelman who has been the Interim Executive Director since October, 1998.
Dr. Jesien's appointment follows a national search in which 19 applicants were reviewed. His experience includes extensive administrative and supervisory responsibility, most recently as the Executive Director of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation since 1997. In this role, he directs and manages Foundation activities, including national grants management, the public policy fellowship program, associate trustee program, and fiscal management of an annual budget of approximately $2.6 million. He served as a Principal Investigator for a series of federal, state, and locally funded projects in personnel preparation, research, materials development, outreach, direct services, and information dissemination via the Internet at the Waisman Center UAP from 1989 - 1997. In addition, Dr. Jesien was awarded a Kennedy Foundation Public Policy Fellowship in 1994 - 1995 to work with the Senate Subcommittee on Disability Policy, Senator Tom Harkin, Ranking Member. Dr. Jesien will begin his appointment with AAUAP on July 1, 1999. The strength of our network combined with Dr. Jesien's skills, commitment, dedication, and experience will move our Association into the future, as we continue to work with people with disabilities and their families to realize their potential for leading independent, productive, and satisfying lives of their choosing. Please join me in welcoming George to AAUAP!
In making this announcement, the Board of Directors also expresses their sincere appreciation to Steve Eidelman for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the Association and its members during his work as our Interim Executive Director. We look forward to working with Steve in his capacity as the Executive Director of the Arc of the United States.
